Ports a Yelling, Bush a Burning
Well Mr. President, looks like we have a problem. You want to hand over control of the United State's major ports on the East Coast to the United Arab Emirites.
There are a few misconceptions about this deal...first and foremost the security of all U.S. ports is in the hands of the United States government, and mainly the Coast Guard. The problem, however, develops if, god forbid, a terrorist were to infiltrate the UAE company that maintains the port; then that terrorist could very well use the port to bring in explosives and the like.
This scenario is well founded because known deceased terrorists have come from the UAE as well as major financial attributes for terrorists were based out of the UAE. While the UAE government maintains that it is cooperative in the ongoing War on Terrorism, the UAE government, however, itself may have been infiltrated by unknown terrorists agents already.
Finally the State Department maintains a travel warning for all American Citizens going to the United Arab Emirites, so the question must be raised how can we trust a foreign owned government entity, while that government cannot guarantee safe passage for our citizens through that country?
While this transaction will definitely help trade relations, in reality the ports should really be handed over to a competent U.S. firm, though, the word competent is what is lacking. If we can't even control any of our economic interests then really are we heading the right direction? We can't control our gas, product production, material production, and raw material production like steal have all been taken out of our control.
Things need to change.
